The F.I.T. Test: Is Your Business Idea Actually a Fit for Your Life?
If you’ve ever gotten excited about a business idea—only to freeze because it feels too big, too complicated, or just plain overwhelming—you’re not alone.
In fact, one of the biggest mistakes I see both new and seasoned entrepreneurs make is diving into something that doesn’t actually fit their life right now.
That’s why I created the F.I.T. Test. It’s a quick way to gut-check your idea before you spend hours (or months) chasing something that’s just not sustainable for you.

What is the F.I.T. Test?
F.I.T. stands for:
- Focus on your season
- Identify your values and skills
- Test-fit your model
It’s not a quiz with a score. It’s a short and honest reflection to help you choose your next right step — based on your life, not what everyone else is doing.
F – Focus on your season
Ask yourself:
- How much time do I actually have each week to work on a business?
- What commitments or limitations are part of my current season?
- Am I in a “go all in” season — or a “gentle side project” season?
Write it down:
What words would you use to describe your season right now?
What kind of business would support you in this season — not work against it?
I – Identify your values and skills
Now reflect on what makes you you:
- What are your top 2–3 values in life right now? (e.g., flexibility, creativity, security)
- What do people always ask you for help with?
- What skills or strengths do you actually enjoy using?
Write it down:
What matters most to you right now?
What strengths feel aligned with those values?
T – Test-fit your model
Match your season and values to a business model:
- Do I want to serve people directly (coaching, consulting, 1:1)?
- Do I want to create products or content once and sell them over time (courses, printables)?
- Do I want to partner with others (affiliate income, UGC, brand work)?
Ask yourself:
- Does that model match the time and energy I have?
- Does it align with my strengths and values?
Write it down:
Which path feels most doable right now?
What’s one baby step I could take in that direction?
What did you learn?
If your idea feels heavy after walking through these, that doesn’t mean it’s bad — it just might not be the right fit right now.
But if it feels lighter, clearer, more aligned — that’s your cue to move forward.
Got clarity… but not sure what to do next?
If the F.I.T. Test helped you see things more clearly — but now you’re stuck wondering,
“Okay… but what’s my actual next move?” — I can help.
This is exactly the kind of thing I walk through in my 1:1 coaching sessions.
Whether you’ve got too many ideas or none at all, I’ll help you filter through the noise, map out your next step, and finally move forward with confidence.

P.S. Once you know your idea fits, the next step is choosing a niche that helps you stand out. Let’s talk about why that matters.
